Autumn in Asia!!!!

Autumn in Asia

Why many hello’s and howdy-do’s!!!  Autumn in Asia is quite a time of year to be here!  I wish everyone could escape for a few days or weeks to come experience the wonders here during this season of the year.  Still, each season brings about its own special holidays, celebrations, festivities.  Each country along with the different parts of those countries bring about a freshness to each season.  I pray you enjoy a few of the wonders we have had here in the “Land of Smiles” and the “Golden Land”.

Autumn in Asia — culture

I have been teaching at a new or new-to-me school for a few months. I was invited to be apart of this yearly event at the school.  This is  also a “new to me” culture of Karen people celebrating Mothers Day here in Thailand.  Although the students and youth are honoring mothers for Mother’s Day, it does not stop there.  Elders, both male and female, regardless if  you have biological children or not, are all celebrated.  The youth and the elders tie a ribbon of several strings around each others wrists while holding different elements of things, rice, bamboo, etc.  The strings are to symbolize unity among the people.  I am freshly amazed at the traditions these people have kept for centuries.

Autumn in Asia — historical

October 12, 2017 and the days surrounding this date, ALL of Thailand paid their last respects to the passing King.  20 years ago I was glued to the television and watched another royal funeral for Princess Diana while living and serving on the mission field in Bristol, England.  Like then, I was glued to the Television (via youtube) for 15 hours watching a most amazing splendor of paying last respects to a King.  Both were loved. Watching and learning, I realized another degree or element of knowing a King’s love for His people truly never dies, the legacy lives on.  It really makes me have a respect for the words and the meaning of the words, “Long live the King”

Autumn in Asia — convention/vision

Through the fall we have had a few Foursquare conventions.  We were blessed to have a gathering of women ministers and church members come from all over S. E. Asia.  We had incredible speakers, our own Joyce Butron (FMI SE Asis Director), Melinda Scott (FMI minister to missionaries) and Zina Docto (FMI Missionary) among others to minister and give the Lord’s refreshment to many dry souls.

I also was blessed to attend the Foursquare of Myanmar annual convention this year.  There were many blessings of goodness that happened!!  We got to pray and anoint new ministers and dedicate them to their ministries.  I also was blessed to be able to co-teach with Joyce Butron!!!!  Our class held the youth that traveled with the elders to convention from around the country!

While in Myanmar, I was treated to a time of getting to be at the college/seminary that started my journey into missions 20 years ago!!!  LITSOM (Lisu Theological Seminary of Myanmar) is also the school that we will be talking more about in group meetings at home!  With the Lord’s blessing, you are viewing my home school and mission ground for next year!!!
